Early Orthodontic Treatment

Patients and parents have many questions and concerns about Early Orthodontic Treatment, also commonly referred to as "Phase I" Treatment. Dr. Meng is extremely sensitive to your concerns, and also exercises a conservative approach to Early Orthodontic Intervention.
The American Association of Orthodontists recommends that your child be evaluated for orthodontic treatment no later than age 7. Children are growing rapidly between the ages of 7 and 10 years old. During those formative years, an orthodontist can modify jaw growth and create a better environment for the eruption of the permanent teeth and improve overall dental health.
An initial early phase of orthodontic treatment can improve jaw alignment, enabling your child to chew or bite more effectively. It may also reduce the risk of breaking important front teeth that protrude too far forward. For some patients, there is an improvement of self-esteem and aesthetics as well as overall function and future dental health.
